River wall upgrade
CAMPASPE Shire is in the middle of a $250,000 upgrade of Campaspe River which was damaged by ongoing high river levels.
Chief executive Jason Russell said a 20m section of retaining wall adjacent to Beechworth Bakery and adjoining carpark was being rebuilt.
‘‘That will be finished in the next three or four weeks before the peak tourism season,’’ he said.
The area has some restrictions with the deck constructed up to the river bank, steepness of the bank and tight access to the area.
Works will involve driving steel poles into the river bank, about 2.5 metres apart, anchoring the poles into the land and sliding concrete panels between each pole.
The parking area adjacent to Beechworth Bakery on Radcliffe St will be closed during construction.
Access to the River Walk, along the Campaspe River to the north will be maintained throughout the project.
