We are in the middle of another round of ‘Meet the Council’ sessions in communities across the Council area. It’s an important means for us to get a better handle on issues of local importance, and for residents to ask questions, make suggestions, and yes, to have a complaint heard by Councillors and sta . We have already done Barham and Moulamein, with excellent results. Water, of course, pervades these discussions. The impact its nonavailability has had and continues to have on smaller communities has been dramatic. But lots of other issues have been raised, and will be followed up. Meetings are coming up in other towns, so check the website for dates and times. We’d love to see you there. Another project that is in the consultation phase is the Bridge Art Project, and the creation of a master plan for the precinct to be created under and around the new bridge in Echuca Moama. While not strictly a Council-driven project, the master plan has been strongly supported by the Council, and includes a re-design of Meninya St and its immediate surrounds to take advantage of the expected change in tra c density and type that will follow the opening of the bridge. Consultations with local stakeholders (businesses, residents and others) begin this week to ensure their needs and views will be accommodated in the re-design. There is a survey on the Council’s website where you can input your views as well. It’s an exciting project, and we look forward to the completion of the plan in the New Year. Finally, I was privileged to attend an exhibition in Moulamein recently where the local gallery and the school combined resources to display the best of the whole school’s artwork for the year. It was a fabulous event, and a great credit to the organisers and all the students that contributed. And of course to all the mums, dads and grandparents that supported them.
