Mag­nif­i­cent seven light up court at tour­na­ment

LO­CAL ten­nis play­ers have had a strong start to the sea­son in re­cent events in Shep­par­ton.

A to­tal of seven lo­cals have seen com­pe­ti­tion in the Goulburn Val­ley JT in the first days of the new year.

Young gun Is­abella Cross­man (pic­tured) had yet an­other strong show­ing at the Goulburn Val­ley JT, cruis­ing through to the semi fi­nals of the 12 and un­der girls sec­tion as the three seed, be­fore fall­ing just shy of the fi­nal against two seed Anna Bishop.

Cross­man de­feated four seed Sarah Bir­chall in three sets to claim the third placed play­off.

Cross­man teamed with 12 and un­der sin­gles win­ner Mahi Khore in the age group’s dou­bles sec­tion, where the team lost in the fi­nal to Sarah Bir­chall and Anna Bishop.

In the 12 and un­der boys sec­tion, lo­cal Ja­cob Haines took Roger Che­ung to the limit in his sin­gles match, go­ing down 7-5 in both sets.

Mitchell Collins had a good win in his open­ing round match in the 14 and un­der boys draw, be­fore los­ing in the sec­ond round to 15 seed Harry Lyons.

Fel­low lo­cal Si­las Kingma had less luck, draw­ing the num­ber two seed in the sec­ond round in Cooper Er­rey, los­ing in straight sets.

Collins and Kingma teamed up in the dou­bles, los­ing in the sec­ond round.

In the 16 and un­der sec­tion, Joshua Bavich scored his way through to the third round be­fore los­ing to eight seed Zachary Adam-Gedge.

Bavich teamed with Ned Simp­son in the dou­bles, los­ing in the sec­ond round.

Ayla Kingma teamed with Natasha Do­dos in the 12 and un­der dou­bles, los­ing in their open­ing round.

The group then teamed up for the 15 and un­der mixed dou­bles tour­na­ment.

Si­las and Ayla Kingma joined forces, but were elim­i­nated in the open­ing round.

The other lo­cal team of Joshua Bavich and Is­abella Cross­man pro­duced a strong show­ing, be­fore be­ing elim­i­nated in the semi fi­nals.
