Motorists urged to slow down

-

POLICE are reminding all road users to be safe around Moama and Mathoura schools, with students returning to normal schedules.

During the COVID-19 restrictions, NSW school zones have remained in place but the number of children attending has been greatly reduced.

Murray River Police District Commander, Superintendent Paul Smith said police would be out in force ensuring the community abided by road rules.

“We are expecting our local school zones to be busy with students returning to the classroom,” Supt Smith said.

“I urge every road user, including pedestrians, to take extra care and consider their behaviour, particularly in areas where we have high concentrations of young people.

“Pay attention to the flashing signs, comply with requests from school crossing supervisors, and help us to keep everyone safe on our roads.”

Drivers are also being asked to either park away from school and escort students in, park in designated areas, or heed the kiss and drop zones.

Parents are reminded to hold their child's hand when crossing the road and escorting them into school grounds.
