ECHUCA police are appealing for information about a brazen burglary and car fire.

Detective Senior Constable Stuart Poulton of Campaspe Criminal Investigation Unit said thieves broke into a Hovell St, Echuca, property between 11.50am and 12.10pm on Monday, May 10, while the occupants were out.

A watch worth $150 was stolen. ‘‘People were seen loitering in the area at the time,’’ Det Snr Constable Poulton said.

‘‘We are asking if anyone has any CCTV from the area or happened to see anything suspicious to please let us know.’’

Police and the CFA were called to a car fire on the Northern Hwy near Ballendella early yesterday. A 2001 silver Holden Commodore, which had been parked on the highway near PrairieRochester Rd for a couple of days, was tipped over and set alight about 2.20am.

‘‘If anyone was driving past at the time, we would ask they give us a call,” Det Snr Constable Poulton said.

Anyone with information can contact police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. ■ The RFS Mid Murray Zone is planning a hazard reduction burn at Deep Creek Marina tomorrow, weather permitting. Womboota, Caldwell, Bunnaloo, Deniliquin, Barham and Moama crews will conduct the burn, starting at 9am.

TONGALA'S inaugural Eats and Beats festival had the perfect recipe for success.

So much so, organisers are hoping to see it become an annual event on the town's social calendar.

More than 500 people went to the Tongala Soundshell on Sunday, May 2, for an event created to help the creative art industry recover after a tough year.

Visitors were treated to plenty of food and games, while a number of musicians — including Scotty Baker and Long Gone Moondoggies — entertained the masses.

“Obviously when we were planning this we were hoping it would be successful, but it's never been done in Tongala before so we didn't know how many people would come,” Tongala Development

Group Townsend said.

“The recipe of hard work, the sunshine, having some music and food to suit everyone — it all came together.

“There was a really good feel in the town; it was nice to see everyone back together again and generating some income for the business who weren't able to work over COVID.

“All the feedback was really positive and encouraging, and the vendors, as far as generating income, I know it exceeded all their expectations.”

Ms Townsend thanked all the volunteers and local businesses for their support in helping set up and run the event, along with Campaspe Shire Council for its support in obtaining a Creative Active Recovery grant to help run the event. member
