The Emergency Continues.

Refugee Legal: Defending the rights of refugees.

- David Manne Executive Director & Principal Solicitor, Refugee Legal

The emergency situation for people seeking asylum in our country has escalated even further.

Under recent Federal Government changes, there are still thousands of people nationally — including many of them in Victoria — who urgently need our legal help to apply for refugee protection by the arbitrary deadline of 1 October 2017. People who miss the deadline could be deported without the Government even hearing their cases for protection.

Having been left in legal limbo for years, they must now complete onerous and complex legal paperwork with over 100 questions plus a detailed statement of fears (all in English) by 1 October.

Legal help is absolutely essential for people to effectively present their case — without it, it’s a recipe for failure which violates rights and endangers lives.

Right now we need an urgent injection of funding to scale up and help those in need.

As Australia’s largest provider of free specialist legal assistance to people seeking asylum, refugees and vulnerable migrants, with over 28 years’ experience, Refugee Legal remains at the forefront of providing wide-ranging legal assistance to people from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds.

We’re now leveraging the support of over 550 volunteers, including partners at over a dozen law firms to ensure your donations are making the biggest possible impact.

Help us to help refugees, who deserve a fair go before the law and the chance to build a better life in safety here.

Please donate now to at www.refugeelegal.org.au

With my sincere thanks,

David Manne Executive Director & Principal Solicitor
