A harbinger of change

Fred Chaney is to be congratulated for his commentary on the need for a paradigm shift in our acceptance of the status quo of government, by the party and for the party (“This is what the major parties need”, May 14-20). The prosecution of his argument that “reform requires an external shock” linked perfectly with Thomas Kuhn popularising the words “paradigm shift” in his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions.
