Two New Zealand pho­tog­ra­phers have se­cured top spots in this year’s round of an in­ter­na­tional photo com­pe­ti­tion ded­i­cated specif­i­cally to the art of black-and-white photograph­y.

Jeremy Se­nior and Christine Spring both man­aged to score cat­e­gory-top­ping po­si­tions in the 2014 Black and White Spi­der awards, a monochro­matic global con­test for both pro­fes­sional and am­a­teur pho­tog­ra­phers now in its ninth year.

Se­nior scooped the Out­stand­ing Achieve­ment award for his ethe­real land­scape shot of the Coro­man­del’s Cathe­dral Cove, which placed first in the Na­ture — Am­a­teur cat­e­gory.

Spring was awarded the top spot in the Sports — Am­a­teur cat­e­gory with her im­age, Envy, gain­ing both an Out­stand­ing Achieve­ment and Merit of Ex­cel­lence for plac­ing sec­ond in the over­all Pho­tog­ra­pher of the Year — Am­a­teur con­test.

The Black and White Spi­der Awards is now call­ing for sub­mis­sions from pro­fes­sional and am­a­teur pho­tog­ra­phers for the 2015 con­test, with en­tries open un­til April 24 — see thes­pi­der­awards.com for full de­tails.
