Infocus 2015 brings Australian photographer Lucy Spartalis to NZ
Queenstown in August will be a photographer’s dream, with the likelihood of snowcapped mountains and frosty lakes. It’s fitting, then, that the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography’s (NZIPP) Infocus 2015 conference will be held amid this New Zealand winter vista from August 9–10. The conference hosts many educational and inspiring speakers, and this year Australian wedding photographer Lucy Spartalis will head to Kiwi shores to take the conference stage, and enlighten attendees on a variety of topics.
Spartalis’ presentation, Finding the light and the love — framework for a modern wedding photographer, will cover such subjects as creating a business structure, working with and against trends, interpreting the light, sourcing inspiration from outside the industry, the importance of a supportive network, helping the big day flow with ease, and branding and online presence. Spartalis was recently named as the runner-up in the Capture
Magazine Australia’s Top Emerging Photographer 2015 competition in the Wedding category. She’s also accepted the title of Master in Australian company Ted’s Cameras ambassador programme. Her work is published in Dumbo Feather magazine, for which she works as an editorial photographer, but has also been published in frankie,
Hello May, Broadsheet, and various other print publications, as well as on websites and blogs.
Influenced by the likes of Erwin Olaf, Annie Leibovitz, and Elliott Erwitt, Spartalis’ style encompasses both fine art and photojournalistic techniques, which can be seen in her portraits, alongside honest documentation of real life. Forming one half of the team collaboration, She takes Pictures He Makes Films — with her film-maker partner Alastair Innes as the other half — Spartalis also directs some of the duo’s film projects.
Finding the light and the love — framework for a modern wedding photographer will be held at Rydges Lakeland Resort, Queenstown, on Sunday, August 9 at 4pm. To register to attend Infocus 2015, head to infocus.org.nz. The early-bird rate will apply until June 26.
