International architecture and environmental photographer speaking at Image Nation
It has been confirmed that Melbourne-based photographer Peter Bennetts will be heading to this year’s Image Nation event being held at Auckland’s Q Theatre on October 19–20. Bennetts’ work has appeared in such publications as The Guardian, Condé Nast Traveller (UK), Travel + Leisure (USA), and Time. His work also appears in many Australian publications on a regular basis, including Architecture Australia, Artichoke, and Belle. Bennetts initially started his photography career in the realms of environmental reportage, travelling to such places as Chile, Easter Island, India, Thailand, and plenty more, and has focused a lot on Tuvalu, highlighting the vulnerability of the island’s coral atolls to climate change.
It was Bennetts’ environmental reportage that sparked his interest in constructed environments, and led him to turn his camera towards photographing architecture in Australia, and also around the world. His architecture photography has appeared in books, including the two volumes of the Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture.
The line-up for this year’s event has now expanded to include — along with Peter Bennetts — Nels Israelson from Los Angeles, Sean Izzard from Sydney, Auckland’s Lisa Reihana, and Wellington’s David Cook, with five more speakers to be announced.
