Faces of Jerusalem exhibition on now

The Shed - - News -

Ilan Wittenberg’s Faces of Jerusalem series is adorning the walls of the Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery in Auckland. This body of work saw Wittenberg receive the title of 2015 Auckland Photographer of the Year from the NZIPP.

Wittenberg travelled to the Old City of Jerusalem and approached many of its merchants from each quadrant of the city, the Muslim Quarter, the Jewish Quarter, the Armenian Quarter, and the Christian Quarter.

All the portraits are displayed together, giving the audience an insight into a city that most will never experience in their lifetime. You’ll get an understanding of the culture, the history, and the struggles of everyday life in the area, where there is political unrest.

The exhibition is open until May 1, from 10am to 4.30pm daily.
