EVENT: PSNZ 64th National Convention April 22–25
The 2016 PSNZ National Convention, this year titled Caught in the Moment, is being hosted by the Queenstown Photography Club, with the national exhibition organized by the Southland Photographic Society. The event will be held at Remarkables School, Frankton Arm, Queenstown, and presenters will include Andris Apse, who will speak on landscapes; Graeme Murray, who will discuss adventure photography; and Nick Rains, who will talk about travel and documentary photography. EVENT: World Pinhole Photography Day April 24
World Pinhole Photography Day is celebrated internationally on the last Sunday of April, with this year’s celebration falling on April 24. The event focuses on taking a step back from all the technology that photography offers these days to take part in the act of creating a pinhole photograph and uploading it to the event’s website for the world to see. EXHIBITION: Faces of Jerusalem Until May 1
Ilan Wittenberg’s compelling collection of portraits shows the culture and the atmosphere of the Old City of Jerusalem. The collection, combined and showcased as the exhibition Faces of Jerusalem, is on display at Auckland’s Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery and is open to the public. Contact: teuru.org.nz
WORKSHOP: How to Make Better Photographic Prints May 7
AIPA Photo Academy will host a four-hour workshop for professional and semi-pro photographers interested in printing their work to a high standard. Participants will get advice from the experts regarding colour management, paper handling, and inkjet printing. COMPETITION: 2016 Sigma D-Photo Amateur Photographer of the Year Until June 13
This year’s edition of the Sigma D-Photo Amateur Photographer of the Year competition features a vast array of categories appealing to all amateur photographers in New Zealand. EVENT: 2016 Auckland Festival of Photography June 2–24
The dates for the annual Auckland Festival of Photography event have been confirmed, and so has the revival of the 24-hour Auckland Photo Day that was cancelled last year. This year’s Annual Commission photographer has been confirmed as Russ Flatt, who will exhibit at Silo 6 at Wynyard Quarter during the event.
