EVENT: 2016 Cathay Pa­cific Travel Me­dia Awards Au­gust 19

The Cathay Pa­cific Travel Me­dia Awards will this year be held at Auck­land’s Her­itage Ho­tel and will be hosted by MC Te Radar. SHOW: Shad­ows of Shoah Un­til Au­gust 31

The Shad­ows of Shoah ex­hi­bi­tion is the works of New Zealand pho­tog­ra­pher Perry Trot­ter, with re­search and in­ter­views by Sheree Trot­ter. The ex­hi­bi­tion is based on in­ter­views with holo­caust sur­vivors from New Zealand, Aus­tralia, the US, and Is­rael, and it uses blackand-white por­trai­ture with orig­i­nal mu­sic to present episodes of sur­vivors’ ex­pe­ri­ences. The Ha­mar of Ethiopia, Guy Need­ham’s lat­est ex­hi­bi­tion, is on dis­play at Auck­land’s This That Cafe Gallery un­til Au­gust 31. Need­ham spent time in Ethiopia’s lower val­ley of the Omo and worked with a non­govern­men­tal or­ga­ni­za­tion to doc­u­ment the life­style of the Ha­mar tribe. Re­cent Art from South Amer­ica ex­hi­bi­tion at Auck­land Art Gallery Toi o Tā­maki brings the work of 41 artists from var­i­ous me­dia, in­clud­ing pho­tog­ra­phy, to­gether to demon­strate the so­cial sig­nif­i­cance in their work, which ex­plains and chal­lenges their re­al­i­ties, lives, cul­tures, and spaces from the 1960s to to­day. The win­ners of the 17th an­nual Otago Wildlife Pho­tog­ra­phy Com­pe­ti­tion are on dis­play at the Otago Mu­seum un­til Oc­to­ber 16. Show­cased along­side the win­ners is a se­lec­tion of the other en­tries to the com­pe­ti­tion.
