Loveless bolts

The Shed - - Knife-making -

‘Loveless bolts’ are a means of fastening the scales to the tang without rivets. They resemble rivets, especially after the ends have been ground flat on the scales. The bolts are simply a threaded machine screw and two internally threaded brass or copper sleeves. Tightening the screws draws the sleeves tight around the scales. It’s important that the scales are counter bored only, sufficient to provide leverage for the sleeves. Combined with epoxy resin they will ensure that the handle will never come off the knife.
