The Sportsman Midweek - - Trackwork - — Greg Spletter

We don’t see many 3yo 0LY’s on the Australian calendar and even rarer it is to see an unbeaten runner going round in one. PLAYING MARIKA (R1 No. 2) did the right thing by us at her second career start, going round at ridiculous odds and getting home with a half length to spare. There’s no doubting she will handle the extra furlong tomorrow should be able to maintain her unbeaten record.

After a bit of experimentation, the mile trip looks to be NICCONI’S BOY’s (R4 No. 6) best distance and he can win again when he lines up in the class three. He has been tested from 1400m out to 2000m this prep and found his sweet spot over 1600m, scoring a good win here at the journey a fortnight ago. This is only an average field and he’ll go close again.
