DOOMBEN

The Sportsman Midweek - - Trackwork - — Greg Spletter

There are some standouts tomorrow at Doomben, none more so than THE MECHANIC (R4 No. 2) who put in a tidy run first-up in a super strong Bm90 and will take tossing back to class five. He finished sixth behind Ours To Keep and several other very handy types and will strip fitter for his second go over the 1200m. It’s worth noting that first-up last prep he ran a very ordinary 10th at the provincials before stringing three wins together on end and can do the same this time in.

NEPTUNE’S SPEAR (R3 No. 1) looked smart at his only run here back in November and should be too slick for a moderate juvenile line-up tomorrow. He showed good speed early freewheeled it out in front the whole way, looking strong on the line at the end of 1050m. He ran home in 34.3secs which was a great effort considering his early burn, and from inside gate here should win again.

While a little disappointing as beaten favourite first-up, CONSTANT FLIGHT (R7 No. 2) still put in a cracker and will atone in a much easier class three here. He was only beaten short head and a half neck on the line and will be better for the hitout. Two runs back over this trip he belted Cadogan and despite the big weight in this will be hard to hold off.
