DONCASTER winner It’s Somewhat may have finished 10th of 12 last start in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) but it was the run he had to have to give him a chance to win tomorrow’s Group 2 Crystal Mile at Mooney Valley.

That’s the opinion of his trainer James Cummings who said the seven-year-old was thriving after taking a like to the month-long break since his last run.

“This has been a target race for him for quite a while and I think that it could be

really nice one to pick up,” Cummings said.

“He was good in a jump out recently and he at the Valley on Tuesday when he galloped the course proper.

“I was really happy with his gallop. He’s a horse with a really bold action and he could have been at risk of not getting around a tight track like this. But he has a winning record at the Gold Coast and handled it well Valley on Tuesday.

“He can put himself right into a race and try to take luck out of the equation.”

The Godolphin trainer will also send Sanctioned to the Drummond Golf Vase (2040m) later in the day and he’s stepping back up to 2000m after running eighth from a wide gate in the Caulfield Guineas.

“He’s come through that well and he still looks full of life coming into this which will potentially be a strong lead-up to the Derby,” Cummings said.

“What he’ll need to show us though is that he can hit the line well and mix it with these horses. But he’s got what takes to be competitive here.”
