CARLUCA ON TRACK FOR A WEEKEND WIN
AFTER placing at his last three midweek metropolitan races Jarrod Austin has decided Carluca needs a change of luck, so he’s taking him to Saturday city event at Rosehill tomorrow.
The six-year-old has had a very consistent preparation in the city midweeks and country and provincial races but has only won once.
Austin decided to send him to the last race on the card tomorrow, a Benchmark 83 Handicap and with Rachel King’s claim will only have to carry 52,5kg.
“He hasn’t always been getting quite the right run and he’s been hampered by big weights so I thought I’d give him a crack at Saturday class and with Rachel’s claim he gets in below the limit and hasn’t had this weight on his back in a long time,” Austin said.
“He’s probably not quite strong enough over a mile and the 1400m is a bit too quick for him.
“He hasn’t gone backwards at all this preparation so I’m happy to go to
From barrier one he’ll go forward again but Austin wants King to try and give him an easier run midrace than he’s been getting of late.
“He’s having to do all the donkey work lately for the rest of field but from the draw he’ll be up on the speed or just off it,” Austin said.
“He’s been carting the work up and being left in front at top of the straight and then just being run down late so hopefully he can get a fraction quieter run in the race so he can finish off strongly.
“The wetter the better for us. I know he gets through it really well and some of the others might not.”
