FOUR Golden Slipper winners, four Gimcrack winners and a Breeders’ Plate with the great Encounter, it’s no wonder Clarry Conners is acknowledged as the ‘master twoyear-old trainer’.

It’s been ten years since Conners last won the Gimcrack and almost 20 years since Belle Du Jour’s unforgettable win in the Golden Slipper but Victory Lodge has a new star two-year-old in the shape of Diddles who makes her debut in tomorrow’s ATC Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick.

A $400,000 buy on the Gold Coast in January, Diddles is by super sire Snitzel out of Mimi Lebrock who won the 2007 Magic Millions TwoYear-Old Classic for the Cups King, Bart Cummings and jockey Hugh Bowman.

Diddles, who races in the Belle Du Jour colours of John Singleton, has won two trials going into the Gimcrack, both at home at Warwick Farm by margins of 2.5-len and 2-len respectively – and she was untouched in both.

“She’s got plenty of speed,” Conners said.

“She hung a little bit in her trial the other day but that’s all. She does things right and is pretty good in that regard.

“In both trials, she has done it pretty easily and that’s the same in her work.”
