Ready to Run has share of Cups luck

The Sportsman Weekend - - NEWS -

THOSE owners without a runner in tomorrow’s Caulfield Cup or who might miss out being part of the Melbourne Cup should be sourcing there horses from Karaka in New Zealand.

NZB’s showpiece sales complex just south of Auckland will host the annual Ready To Run sale of 2YO’s on November 21 and 22.

Kiwi-bred horses have won 22 Caulfield and/or Melbourne Cups in the last half century.

Incredibly, that number rises to 27 in the Sydney Cup department thanks to Who Shot Thebarman in 2017.

Amazingly NZ-bred fillies have won the last five consecutive ATC Australian Oaks and five of the past seven Group 1 Guineas races in Australia.

The 32nd NZB Ready To Run Sale is the number one of it’s kind in Australasia and in the past five seasons, graduates of recent NZB Ready To Run sales have tallied up 17 Group 1 winner and 117 stakes winners in that same period.

More remarkably, since 2015, graduates of the sale have won five Group 1 Derbies in Australasia and Asia.

Perhaps the most telling statistic about might and power of Kiwiequine talent is that the last horse to beat Winx was NZ-bred Gust Of Wind, a 2013 NZB Premier Sale graduate.
