SKY TO WIN FOR DATO
TRAINER Anthony Cummings would love nothing more to honour the memory of the late Dato Tan Chin Nam than to win a race on Cox Plate day with his Royal Randwick runner Sky Boy, a horse with strong Think Big Stud connections.
The gelding is a son of Dato Tan’s vastly underrated Pendragon out of Zabeel mare Zazabelle who dead-heated for third in the 1999 Melbourne Cup behind Bart Cummings-trained stablemate Rogan Josh.
Dato Tan and Bart Cummings also had Sky Boy’s grand-dam, The Perfume Garden, who won the 1994 Queen of the Turf Stakes.
Sky Boy was an easy winner in a Kensington midweeker over 1550m last start and will line-up
either tomorrow’s 2000m ATC Cellarbrations Handicap or be saved for a shorter race in town next Wednesday.
“He showed some talent last time in work and is still developing in that regard but that was probably the best he has raced there the other day and he’s come nicely since then,” Cummings said from Malaysia where he is attending Dato Tan Chin Nam’s funeral.
Dato Tan Chin Nam died this week aged 93.
