Winx ready for shot at history

The Sportsman Weekend - - THE TRACKWORK WINNERS - WARREN HUNTLY

WINX was the headline act at Moonee Valley’s ‘Breakfast with Best’ on Tuesday morning and she didn’t disappoint the adoring crowd with a typically impeccable performance.

Hugh Bowman had her under restraint for almost the entire workout where she strode her last 1200m in 1.22.72 and was keen to go quicker up the home straight but Bowman only allowed her to clock 23.86 for final 400m.

Although there were quicker gallops at The Valley during the morning, the ease in which Winx completed her work indicates she is as good as she can be for her attempt at history tomorrow.

Tony McEvoy paired up SUNLIGHT and BEAUTY at The Valley on Tuesday morning they recorded one of the quickest last 400m morning.

With Sunlight sitting on the outside of her workmate, they covered 800m in 51.28 and dashed up the home straight to run their last 400m in 23.11.

Sunlight wasn’t placed under any real pressure during the workout and looks in outstanding order for tonight’s Manikato Stakes.

McEvoy also paired up SACRED SWORD and DESERT LASHES during ‘Breakfast with the Best’ at The Valley on Tuesday morning Sacred Sword working on the inside of his stablemate.

Sacred Sword galloped clear as they approached the finishing post to cover 800m in 50.21 and his closing 400m 23.07.

His last 400m was the quickest of the morning and he should prove hard to beat at The Valley tonight.

Ciaron Maher and David Eustace teamed up with Peter Gelagotis to send three horses around for a short gallop at ‘Breakfast with the Best’ leading into tomorrow’s Inglis Banner.

The Maher and Eustacetrained stablemates SUBSTANTIAL SALOME paired off in the lead with the Gelagotis-trained CHICAGO BULL settling behind them. At the turn into the home straight Chicago Bull peeled out to gallop past his workmates and clock 38.65 for 600m dash and 24.56 his final 400m.

Chicago Bull is a powerfully built two-year-old who looks capable of acquitting himself well on debut.

Phillip Stokes paired up NODOUBTABOUTIT and MORE THAN EXCEED at The Valley on Tuesday morning and they kept pretty close company during their hit out.

They came up the home straight in impressive fashion to cover 1000m in 1.05.54 and their last 400m 23.91.

Both horses looked at peak fitness and are ready to run to their best in their respective assignments at The Valley over Cox Plate weekend.

Sunlight worked brilliantly at Moonee Valley during the week before tonight’s Manikato Stakes.
