All in Order for sprinter

The Sportsman Weekend - - Flemington Preview - WITH TONY THOMAS

There is no doubting 1. MY PENDANT is talented. Her last-start win proved that when she rounded up the leaders with ease and won with plenty in hand at the Valley three weeks ago. But there are a couple of queries about her here, namely she goes up 3kg and is having her first try at the trip and and the track. Think Flemington will suit her, her racing pattern suggests 1400m will be ideal and even though she has 60kg, she is only 5kg over the limit. She had a nice draw to settle midfield and should finish too well for them. The value runner could be

11. BIRDWING, who is at juicy odds here. Still a maiden but is showing promise and liked the way she hit the line in weaker grade at Sandown last start. She was slow to begin that day and hampered on the turn but still produced best closing sectionals of the race. She drops 4kg here after claim and can run a race in this. 6. GOLDIFOX resumed at the Valley two weeks ago and ran on okay behind Sora. Much better suited this track distance and gets blinkers on to help her chances. She was Listed placed here two runs back., 4. QUEEN LA DIVA accelerated well in the final stages to beat her three rivals easily in midweek ground at Sandown last start. Improving all the time but has drawn awakwardly here.

2. NOTATION is the other sound chance.

I was pretty taken by the debut win of 9. PHAISTOS at Kyneton earlier this month. Had to be used up a little from a wide draw to cross and sit outside the leader, then exploded at the top of the straight held on to win well. First and second gapped rest of the field and his sectionals were okay too. Stable has a big opinion of him and he should have improved even further. He can test these. 5. HAWKSHOT is resuming but is smart. started favourite in Listed grade at Flemington on Anzac Day but was trapped very wide throughout and no surprise to see him wilt slightly in the straight. Bound to be running on strongly here. 4. POISED TO STRIKE is also resuming but won a recent jump out in nice fashion and can test these. 1. O’TAUTO has trialled well enough for his resumption 22 and showed talent whenj last in work.

Prepared to gamble on the improving 5. SUPRE. She seems to be betting better with every outing and did a good job to run down French Girl at Sandown last month. Kept fresh, should relish the extra 200m and drawn to get a similar run behind the leaders. Big threat. 1. SHOKORA was back to her best in winning at Moonee Valley three weeks ago. She does go up 5kg on that run, which is a negative, but drawn to get handy run and always shown stack of ability. Should go close again. 3. MISS WAHOO boxed on okay at Pakenham two runs back and will be running on well again. Expecting a much better effort from 7. TEODORA. Blew the start by 4 lengths but still able to beat a couple home at Pakenham when resuming. This big track and extra distance in her favour.

Looks a nice race for 4. LYCURGUS. His last start effort at Moonee Valley was much better than it looked on paper. He produced the best sectionals from 800m to 600m and 600m to 400m and no surprise to see him wilt slightly in the run home. Convinced he is a Flemington horse, where has only missed a place once in five tries and has win and a second in two starts over this trip here. Beat Grey Lion over this course and distance in June. Ready to show his best now. 7. ETYMOLOGY always seems to find one better but he’s racing well enough to be a genuine contender again. Not beaten far here last week and extra distance may just be what he needs. Was a Derby placegetter here as

three-year-old. 1. BERISHA is close to another win. Great effort in the Ballarat Cup and then ran on well behind Our Big Mike in

Pakenham Cup. Does have to lump a big weight but will be running on strongly. 3. ANDREA MANTEGNA was okay in the Werribee Cup and won’t be far away.

Looks a race in two between 5. CASH AFFAIR and 6. FALLEN EMPIRE, who chased home Moor Wanted in a blanket finish here last weekend. Both horses hit the line strongly and look ready to step up to the 1400m. Slight leaning Cash Affair, who may just get better run in clear air from his barrier. Some concern with the racing pattern of Fallen Empire that he may get into some traffic from the inside draw and then have to give Cash Affair a start in the straight. Can easily back both here to make profit and quinella/exacta is looking good. Big watch on the former Kiwi galloper 8. MR TIPLA. He’s only lightly raced but showed talent in New Zealand. 13. CINCINNATI RED is going well enough to pose a threat and suited with the claim.

Sticking with 6. ORDER OF COMMAND who has been kept fresh since resuming with a stylish win at Flemimgton during the Cup carnival. Has great record down the straight and is a also a second-up winner. Seems to race best with his races spaced and drawn to be whereever he wants down the straight. The one to beat. 5. DEMOLITION charged home to just fail behind Exceltara at the Valley on resuming. All better for the run and, despite coming back in distance, think the straight course will suit him and he’ll be powering home. 3. PREZADO broke through for an overdue win at Pakenham and he just may be ready to fulfil his early promise. This is pet distance too. 1. ATLANTIC CITY has stronger form lines than most of these and, although this is short of his best, will be finishing hard.

I think 4. HAUNTED is pretty smart and can show it with a win here. He never looked really comfortable in the heavy ground at Flemington on Cup day but still ran a great race behind Fifty Stars and then simply outclassed his rivals at Ballarat a month ago. He does shoot up little in weight but this big track plays to his strengths and he’s the one beat for mine. 2. SUPERHARD was no match for Haunted at Ballarat but meets him better the weights and has since scored a strong win at Warrnambool beating a handy field. Drawn to get all the favours here. 9. MR MONEY BAGS just failed catch Amadeus at Pakenham and has a weight swing here. He does go well this track and looks strong chance. 3. AMADEUS is back to his best will be prominent in a tough race.

The value here could well be 3. TOP OF THE RANGE. The jury is out as to whether his is a strong 2000m horse but he gets his chance handle the trip in this grade. Ran on very well from a long way back when not far off Mr Monaco at Sandown a month ago. At his only 2000m, he was taking ground of the stakes winner Jaameh at Caulfield, beaten only a length. Hasn’t won for a while but looks ready to break through. 11. CREEDENCE has only just failed at his last two starts and again looks well placed here to get a nice run in midfield. Sure be in the firing line. 7. LAMBORGHINI tried hard at Sandown last start in easier grade but is right at his top now. 2. GOLDEN MANE was doing his best work late behind Al Galayel at the Valley and better placed this big track.

Hard not to be impressed with return racing of 12. MASTERING at Kilmore a month ago. Was gelded before he trounced Exceltara and Mr Money Bags, leading all the way to win as he liked. Exceltara then came out and won at Valley. He does have to repeat that effort second up and not been down the straight before but, all things being equal, he is the one to beat. 9. BEACON will run well here. Got checked out of the race behind Order Of Command here last month and forget he went around. Good fresh horse and will be finishing hard here. 15. ROX THE CASTLE is lightly raced but pretty smart and can threaten these. 17. USAIN BOWLER will come down the grandstand fence and he’s all better for his first-up run. Look for an improved run from 19. PRAIRIE FIRE.
