The Sportsman Weekend

Whitewater’s set to flow

Smart threeyear-old to win again

-

RACE 1;

How the race will be run: Hostage Of War rolls forward to lead and they shouldn’t go overly hard.

The favourites: Fortified heads betting at $2.15 and has the form to justify the short quote. Came

hand quickly last run bolting in over a mile and third-up here stepping out to 1850m he looks very tough beat.

The roughies: Tides Of Jupiter has taken to racing in the Sunshine State winning twice already for the new stable. Well treated after claim and looks a touch of value at $11.

My view: I’m still looking to make good money on Fortified, we were on last weekend at a much better price before his withdrawal and he finds himself in an infinitely easier race tomorrow. Probably outclassed in the Qld Derby last prep but was on fire around this trip leading up to his grand final. Happy to have a decent lash at him as he has a long way to go before finds his level.

The bet: Solid crack at Fortified at $2.15.

RACE 2;

How the race will be run: Tricky map, if Avowal jumps cleanly he looks the likely leader with Foreign Territory and banking on a standard tempo.

The favourites: Nyami is fave at $4.00 in competitive line-up. Nice run last time when not far from Adelase and had slowly been on the improve since a couple of heavy track flops in July. If he holds his form he will be the finish for sure.

The roughies: Predictable Miss has been freshened up and while her latest result wasn’t to this, previous run when second to Champagne Aunty most certainly was. Worth inclusion in exotics at the $11.

My view: Deep Scieva is the bet here at $5.50 after a top effort last time getting run down by Animate and Dreamreacher, she ran them along and showed some ticker to stick on late. I think she’ll probably take a sit behind the speed tomorrow to conserve fuel and drops kilo on the Doomben run. She’s already stakes-placed three runs back over this trip and looks nicely in. I’m backing Nyami for a small win as well as his last run was very strong, and we should come out the other end in front.

The bet: Good each way bet Deep Sceiva at $5.50. Smaller win bet on Nyami ($4.00).

RACE 3;

How the race will be run: Plenty of leader-types engaged here but it’s likely that Lyrical Girl will hold the front from the inside draw and keep the pressure up the whole way.

The favourites: We risked Lyrical Girl first-up when she was under the odds at $3.00, but tomorrow $1.75 is looking pretty good from where I’m sitting. She is a real speedster and from the inside draw has the option to hold them out or slot in behind a suicidal tempo and be strong late. This is a massive drop grade from her latest defeat and back to 1000m she does look a good anchor bet for the day.

The roughies: Despite my confidence in favourite there’s one down the weights I want to be saving on. Motomiss ($11) resumes and from gate (20) is going need luck, though at worst she’ll jump (13). Her form generally consistent but includes a couple of spikes that warrant consideration. Brought up a hattrick on her home track here last year including a fresh win under 59kg, and class three form last prep was encouraging.

My view: I’m pretty keen on Lyrical Girl, I don’t think she’s one we will be consistently unloading on but tomorrow she does look the winner. Saving on Motomiss who goes super here and has demonstrated the ability when her form spikes to be very competitive in this.

The bet: Make Lyrical Girl a decent winner at $1.75. Save to cover on Motomiss $11.

RACE 4;

How the race will be run: Generally pretty fast, but no idea beyond that.

The favourites: Mishani Embrace ($3.30) scored an easy trial win last week and is likely to be up near or in the lead from the perfect gate tomorrow. The big tumbler is Mishani Sunshine in from $9.00 to the second line at $3.70 who also won her trial. She looked a bit green but got the job done and it’s not surprising they took the $9.00.

My view: I don’t have a strong opinion here, and a small ticket on the top pick Mishani Embrace is probably the best way to limit any damage. By far the most interesting aspect of this contest is the presence no less than four juveniles by the same freshman sire, The Mission. It’s a pretty decent effort for a first season stallion to produce four runners in the first 2yo race of the from just 64 live foals, a big effort.

The bet: Small win ticket on Mishani Embrace at $3.30.

RACE 5;

How the race will be run: Decent pressure engaged with Keefy and Bulloo needing to maintain a high enough cruising speed to hold out Damiani and Sutto’s Girl.

The favourites: Whitewater holds the top line at $2.60 after finishing second to Startantes in a small but high quality 3yo race at just his third career start. Good winner from a wide draw prior to that, the step to a mile looks ideal and he should get the speed on finish over the top.

The roughies: Bump’n’run put in a good effort at his debut here two weeks ago, heading straight to 1300m and missing the kick he got held up for a good way prior to the bend did hit line well. Granted this is big transition but extra distance suits, and I think there will be speccing at $71.

My view: Very keen on Whitewater tomorrow. He ran a race for us at $12 the other day and should be shorter than $2.60 against these.

The bet: Good crack at Whitewater ($2.60). Small each way bet on Bump’n’run at $71.

RACE 6;

How the race will be run: Rock Amore might lead them here unless Tears Of Love (13) fires up fresh, either way I’m working on a standard speed.

The favourites: Rock Amore has usurped the top line at $3.80 and he does look one to beat. Beat subsequent winner Samurai before crossing the line with Vinco who he meets a half kilo better. Stuck on gamely in good quality class field at his latest appearance and this is much easier. Vinco ($3.90) still a smidgin under the mark for mine despite having excuses last time. Drawn well but will get back in the ruck and need luck.

The roughies: Best of them is Let’s Party Marty ($10) who doesn’t win out of turn. His form is very patchy but on his first-up run in July would be prominent at the end.

My view: Rock Amore has options tomorrow, and there is a likelihood that he can lead and dictate. The $3.80 is reasonable and he has really hit his straps since transferring to Tony Gollan winning three races already

April.

The bet: Good go win only Rock Amore ($3.80). No luck in a lean quaddie last week, looking for better divvies tomorrow. Quaddie 3,4,5,8,9 /1,3,4,6,8 /1,2,3,5,6 /4,5,7,9,11.

RACE 7;

How the race will be run: Confident of a good speed here with Zigallene and Dissolution rolling forward Honorable Spirit ready to head them both if the pace slackens.

The favourites: Champagne Aunty has been solidly backed into $3.50 on the quick backup from a hefty drop in distance last weekend. She was coming off a super hat-trick up to 1835m and took on Miami Fleiss over 1300m at the Gold Coast prime her for a tilt at her hometown Cup. Happy enough to pen the result from last Saturday and go on her form which is exceptional.

The roughies: Dissolution continues to bob up when least expected when he can steal a cheap lead and kick. He’s not really likely to do that here but he’s fit and at $16 he gets a run in the quaddie, as does He Runs Away ($10) who continues to taunt me with encouraging finishes.

My view: Champagne Aunty is the testing material and while there isn’t tremendous value in

$3.50 it’s good enough.

The bet: Fair win only bet on Champagne Aunty at $3.50.

RACE 8;

How the race will be run: Apache Chase looks to get a very soft lead.

The favourites: Apache Chase ($4.00) resumes here after taking a prized scalp over the winter carnival, beating Ayrton in the Fred Best with a controlled frontrunning display. I can’t see anything taking him on, or even pressuring really, and he will have a full tank nearing the bend. He hasn’t won over this trip yet but on fresh legs is his best chance.

The roughies: Tambo’s Mate ($12) is the best I can muster, he’s been racing below his best but it wasn’t a bad effort fresh and he can improve sharply.

My view: Apache Chase will be in front for a long way and at $4.00 is definitely the one to be on.

The bet: Decent go (2x1) on Apache Chase at $4.00.

RACE 9;

How the race will be run: Ingear will lead from the wide draw and be doing her best to stack them up once she finds fence.

The favourites: I was a bit nervy about Ingear stepping straight to 1200m first-up and lucky for us it wasn’t 1210m. She strips fitter tomorrow and this is only slightly harder, but the elephant in the room is shocking gate. She is going to have to burn plenty to cross and even with a subsequent soft lead she might be vulnerable at the business end.

The roughies: Raging Pole’s form is hot and cold but on his day he can run a race around this grade. He was big winner at last run here on his home track and will probably look to go forward find a back follow.

My view: I’m on Raging Pole each way at $19 looking for a nice fresh performance from him. The favourite Ingear is definitely the testing material but is a touch short at $2.50 to have major crack at, I’m wary of the combination of gate (15) and 1200m.

The bet: Each way Raging Pole ($19). Save to cover on Ingear ($2.50).

 ?? ?? Raging Pole.
Raging Pole.
