Girls’ night out

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - Escape - - GOLD COAST LIFESTYLES -

LADIES, it’s time to get together for the ultimate girls’ night out at Menopause The Musical at Twin Towns next week.

Inspired by ‘‘ a hot flush and a bottle of wine’’, Menopause The Musical is a celebration of women who are either on the brink, in the middle, or have survived ‘ the change’.

Set in a department store, four women ( a soap star, a Dubbo housewife, a power woman and an earth mother) with nothing in common, other than a black lace bra, meet by chance at a lingerie sale.

The women quickly bond over shared stories of hot flushes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges, all set to songs from the baby boomer era, with a few tweaks here and there, such as The Great Pretender, Only You, Heat Wave and I Will Survive.

Starting out as an off-Broadway play in a modest theatre, the musical has since taken the world by storm. This Australian production is directed by Patty Bender and stars Maria Mercedes, Andrea Creighton, Michelle Collins and Jennifer Levy, and promises a comedic and musical experience about going through ‘ the change’ and the power of sisterhood.

Menopause The Musical will be staged on Thursday, June 24, at Twin Towns. The matinee performance starts at 2pm and costs $ 35 per person and the evening performance starts at 7.30pm and costs $ 37 per person.
