Room to move in rural setting

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - Escape - - SUITE LIFE GERRINGONG, NSW -

Not so keen

Airconditioning in guest rooms is a little noisy, showers splash over the bathroom floor and the toilet paper is sub-par. Getting exactly the same buffet breakfast on both weekend mornings is disappointing.

The room

At first, the masculine look of Bellachara, all edges and contrasts, seems disconcertingly urban in this rural, coastal environment. But soon you’ll realise how refreshing it can be to stay in the country and not be surrounded by floral patterns and chintz. Rooms are spacious, with a good lounge area at one end, many with a balcony where you can sit and listen to the cockatoos. Those with kids will find interconnecting rooms, PlayStation 2 and kitchenette ( where stainless-steel appliances add to the chic look) a bonus.

The food and drink

Start on the restaurant’s leather lounges for pre-dinner drinks and finger food ($ 5), such as delicate Sicilian olive tartlets, or haloumi with roasted capsicum remoulade. Then move on to the main dining
