Enjoy a room full of luxuries
bottle of the best on our double bed. How do I top that at her next birthday? The Sofitel staff knew this trip was a special occasion and we were blown away by the champagne and an array of chocolates for the girls.
We stayed in a luxury ocean king room on the 18th floor, which faces the ocean so you have 180-degree coastal views. There’s a giant spa in the marble bathroom plus slippers and gowns for cosy comfort. But the pride and joy of the Sofitel is the sleep factor. There’s a layer of goose down and feathers on top of the mattress, and a pillow menu. If the kids didn’t wake us each morning, we’d still be asleep.
There are two restaurants at the Sofitel, On3 and the more sophisticated Room81.
We hit On3 most days for breakfast, lunch and nibblies. It is also open for dinner and offers a seafood buffet on weekends. Room81 has won an array of awards, with head chef Paul Smart leading the team to victory in the Gold Box Restaurant Challenge three times.
The mini-bar test
There’s a comprehensive choice of beer, wine, spirits and snacks with prices on par with other 5-star hotels.
The Sofitel Gold Coast offers some great packages. The ‘‘ I Love Chocolate’’ deal gives you three nights for the price of two, free chocolates and a 3pm checkout for $ 193 a night.
Rooms generally range from $ 214 to $ 414 a night during the off-season.
