Editor’s note

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - Escape - - THE GO DIRECTORY -

THIS week, Escape goes back to Bangkok.

The Red Shirt riots have ended, but has life on the streets returned to Bangkok’s normal hustle and bustle?

Reporter Mick Shippen is based in Bangkok. He has lived there for many years and saw the riots, and the damage, first hand.

Escape sent Shippen out to see what it is like today for returning tourists. His report shows that while there are still some physical scars on the city landscape, Bangkok is doing what it does best – having a sale.

Hotels rooms are on sale, retail outlets are having sales, and tourists are the winners.

Australia still has travel warnings about going to Bangkok, but according to our man on the street, life is quickly returning to normal.
