A picture- perfect tour destination
TRAVEL photographer Valerie Martin is leading two new photography tours to Ethiopia in November and next February.
Martin, who has worked on magazines such as Gourmet Traveller and Woman’s Day and newspapers such as The New York Times, has also taught photography and will be able to help travellers understand their cameras better and help with difficult shooting conditions.
She says Ethiopia is a fantastic destination for a photography tour because it has beautiful scenery, similar to the Grand Canyon and Utah, rock-hewn churches with beautiful paintings and high priests, medieval castles, gorgeous people, colourful markets, baboons and other animals.
The 17-day tour costs $ 4800, land only, which includes twin-share accommodation, transfers, transport, local and Australian guides and internal flights and most meals.
The tour cost will include a donation to the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital. this year, giving holidaymakers a local’s insight into the unique territory she has called home since moving from the US 10 years ago.
The seven-night tours will include a visit to Reddy’s home, which is filled with memorabilia from her musical career, and her beloved garden, which is part of a lush 1.3ha property farmed by her convict ancestor, Richard Morgan, during the island’s days as a penal colony in the early 1800s.
Reddy rose to fame in the 1970s with 14 hit songs, including I Am Woman, which recently featured in the karaoke scene in the hit movie Sex and the City 2. The tours are priced from $ 2740 a person twin share from Brisbane, including return airfares, seven nights’ accommodation, daily breakfast and six dinners.
