RUTHER­GLEN is the place to be this Queen’s Birth­day weekend for Vic­to­ria’s orig­i­nal wine fes­ti­val. Run­ning since 1974, the Ruther­glen Win­ery Walk­a­bout Fes­ti­val al­lows vis­i­tors to taste the best new-re­lease wines from 19 lo­cal winer­ies, in­clud­ing crisp ta­ble wines, warm­ing reds and world-class mus­cats. A few of the spe­cial events over the Ruther­glen Win­ery Walk­a­bout Fes­ti­val weekend in­clude the Cofield Wines Sparkling Bur­gundy Break­fasts, pro­vided by The Pick­led Sis­ters Cafe, or the laid­back re­cov­ery Bon­fire Break­fast at Lake Mood­e­mere Vine­yards. Other high­lights of the fes­ti­val, which is held on June 7 and 8, in­clude en­ter­tain­ment and live mu­sic, win­ery break­fasts, a farmer’s mar­ket and com­mu­nity events like bar­rel rac­ing down Main St in Ruther­glen. Fes­ti­val-go­ers will be able to leave the car at home or in the ho­tel carpark, with a shut­tle bus do­ing a loop be­tween the winer­ies.
