Defiant Syrians hit streets
HUNDREDS of Syrians gathered in Damascus, honking car horns, flashing victory signs and waving Syrian flags in defiance at the allied airstrikes.
Vehicles with loudspeakers took to the streets blaring nationalist songs and Syrian president Assad tweeted “Good souls will not be humiliated”.
Locals began gathering in Omayyad square in the Syrian capital. Many waved Syrian, Russian and Iranian flags.
The missile strike had begun at about sunrise local time, with explosions competing with the loudspeakers from the city’s mosques calling for morning prayers.
A senior Syrian opposition leader said the international community will have to bear the responsibility for “any revengeful escalation” from the Syrian government or its allies following joint airstrikes from the US, Britain and France.
