WHY WE DID A DINE AND DASH

MY Kitchen Rules winners Alex Clark and Emily O’Kane say they needed to step away from the spotlight following the controversy surrounding their win earlier this year.

The couple, who were berated by viewers during the Channel 7 show, moved from the Gold Coast to Byron Bay before the finale and switched off their social media accounts.

“We were thrown into this big whirlwind of fame. It’s not our style,” Clark said. “We wanted to do it and have a crack at winning but it was never about promoting ourselves.”

O’Kane added: “The reason people didn’t think we deserved to win was because I cried, and honestly, if you’re competing for $250,000 you can cry, scream do whatever you want because you’ve got to give it your all ... We really just needed to go back to normal life and adjust.”

They returned to Brisbane to cook a sustainable feast at the Eco Expo at Brisbane Showgrounds yesterday. They will also feature at the Brisbane Food and Wine Expo in a fortnight.
