Robotics to wreck jobs
MILLIONS of jobs will be swept away in a “fourth industrial revolution” as workers are replaced by robots, Bank of England Governor Mark Carney warned yesterday. The UK bank boss said technological changes could destroy 10 per cent of British jobs – 3.2 million roles – as everything from passport gates to supermarket check-outs were automated.
“Every technological revolution mercilessly destroys jobs and livelihoods well before the new ones emerge,” he said. “The share of jobs at high risk of automation … is 10 per cent in the UK and 15 per cent in Ireland.”
