Ir­wins hon­our Steve at gala

THE Ir­wins rolled out the red d car­pet for their celebrity friends and sup­port­ers at the an­nual Steve Ir­win Gala Din­ner in Bris­bane last night.

Terri, Bindi and Robert Ir­win (right), who glammed up p in a clas­sic com­bi­na­tion of khaki and black, were joined by the likes of David and Lisa Campbell, Ge­orgie Gard­ner, El­lie Gon­salves, Adam Brand, Troy Cas­sar-Da­ley and Lau­rel Ed­wards at the event, held in hon­our of the late Croc­o­dile Hunter.

But the guest list wasn’t re­stricted to those in suits and frocks, with a num­ber of crea­tures also strut­ting their stuff in front of the cam­eras, in­clud­ing a chee­tah, echidna, koalas, birds and snakes.

Last night’s soiree at the Bris­bane Con­ven­tion and Ex­hi­bi­tion Cen­tre marked the 12th year of the char­ity din­ner, which sup­ports the Aus­tralia Zoo Wildlife War­riors, rais­ing funds for do­mes­tic and in­ter­na­tional con­ser­va­tion pro­jects and recog­nises the ef­forts of young con­ser­va­tion­ists from around the world.

Ear­lier, Terri tweeted about her ex­cite­ment about pay­ing tribute to the pas­sions of her hus­band, who died in 2006.

“Look­ing for­ward to cel­e­brat­ing ev­ery­thing Steve loved, tonight at our Gala Din­ner It’s all about wildlife, fam­ily and fun!” she said.

Bindi, who was joined by long-term boyfriend Chan­dler Pow­ell on the red car­pet, pre­vi­ously re­vealed yes­ter­day’s gala was go­ing to be the fam­ily’s big­gest yet, with 700 guests at­tend­ing, say­ing the fam­ily were “hum­bled” by the sup­port.
