Fatal flood hits again
AMMAN: Flash floods killed nine people and forced tourists to seek higher ground in the ancient city of Petra.
Dozens were hurt and more evacuated in several locations as flood waters rose rapidly.
Amateur footage showed a torrent rushing through a narrow canyon through which visitors reach the Treasury, the main attraction in Petra.
Authorities said two dozen people were injured and dozens more evacuated as homes flooded in several locations.
The floods came just two weeks after 21 people, many of them middle-school students, died in a flash flood near the Jordanian shore of the Dead Sea.
Authorities said more than 3600 tourists were visiting Petra yesterday.
