Quick passenger stops bus
SALT LAKE CITY: A Greyhound bus passenger steered the coach to safety after the driver collapsed yesterday.
Police said Everette Elliott, 49, took over as the driver suffered a medical problem south of Salt Lake City, stopping the bus on the side of the highway.
About 20 people were on board and no one was hurt.
The male bus driver, 30, was taken to a hospital.
Mr Elliott, who recently moved to Salt Lake City for work, said he was asleep when he felt the bus swaying.
“He was going from side to side … it was like in a video game,” he said.
The bus swayed into a stone wall, pushing it back out to the middle of the road before Elliott took the wheel.
Greyhound sent a relief bus to take the passengers the rest of the way to Salt Lake City, a spokeswoman said.
