Sup­port for baby blues suf­fer­ers

QUEENS­LAND par­ents will have bet­ter sup­port for their men­tal well­be­ing with a $1.1 mil­lion fund­ing boost by the State Gov­ern­ment.

Min­is­ter for Health and Am­bu­lance Ser­vices Steven Miles an­nounced the Palaszczuk Gov­ern­ment would give not-for-profit ser­vice Peach Tree Peri­na­tal Well­ness $1,186,020 over 2.5 years.

“Peri­na­tal de­pres­sion is a com­mon con­di­tion that can af­fect all par­ents,” the min­is­ter said.

“One in 10 women will ex­pe­ri­ence de­pres­sion dur­ing preg­nancy. This in­creases to around one in six women in the year fol­low­ing the birth of their baby.

“One in 10 fa­thers de­velop post­na­tal de­pres­sion dur­ing their part­ner’s preg­nancy and in the 12 months af­ter the birth of their child.”
