More room for koalas
THE Queensland Government has moved to better protect koalas.
Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch said 190,000ha had been added to essential habitat maps following recommendations from the Koala Expert Panel, for the protection of koalas in Queensland.
“The science tells us that the biggest threat to Queensland’s koala population is the loss of habitat, and that is why we are taking action,” she said.
“The next stage of mapping will be used, in part, to protect koala habitat through the planning framework.”
