RECOVERY efforts from the bushfires which ravaged communities across central Queensland in recent weeks will be led by retired MajorGeneral Stuart Smith.
Maj-Gen Smith (pictured), who has 36 years of Australian military experience, previously led the defence force response to Cyclone Y Yasi in 2011, which ravaged north Q Queensla land.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said sa MajGen Smith’s Smith’ k knowledge and experience would help impacted communities recover as quickly as possible, with support from various agencies, including the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
“Queensland has not experienced a bushfire disaster of this size and scale before, but those impacted can be assured the Queensland Government will continue to work closely with you as we bounce back from this,” she said.
“Recovery from these bushfires will include rebuilding infrastructure, local economies and the environment, and will focus on the health and emotional wellbeing of those impacted.”
