‘TIL DARTH DO US PART Forget your bride and prejudice! Meet the couples sabre-ing the moment at their wacky weddings
FROM having Darth Vader in your wedding party to Super Mario themed wedding bouquets, these are some of Queensland’s wackiest weddings.
These bride and grooms had such a love of film, TV and novels such as Star Wars, Alice in Wonderland and Doctor Who that they incorporated every little element they could into their special day.
Petra and Andrew Wagemaker took their Star Wars fandom to a galactic level by bringing stormtroopers, lightsabres and even the evil Sith in the wedding party.
“We both love Star Wars, we live and breathe it,” Ms Wagemaker said. “All aspects of our lives somehow always come back to Star Wars, whether it be a random quote or reference slipped into conversation.
“I think it was just our destiny.”
Another couple recreated their favourite Tim Burton production, Alice in Wonderland. Ashlea and Glenn Caldwell’s fairytale-themed wedding took a year to plan and was complete with quirky tea cups, pots and decorations from op shops.
Ms Caldwell ditched the flowers for a bouquet made entirely out of pages in the Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass novels.
“It took a couple of months, and ... that’s something we can keep forever,” she said. Brittney Murakami also had an unconventional wedding bouquet which she made – it was Super Mario themed. She married her partner Michael at Movie World, where they had their ceremony in the Hall of Justice and their reception in the Scooby Doo ride with a night of rollercoaster fun for their guests. “We had a videothemed wedding. My partner and I are absolutely massive gamers, so I did all the graphic design for our wedding invitations and they were PlayStation 4 themed,” she said.
