Fe­male cop as­saulted

A PO­LICE of­fi­cer is in hospi­tal after a multi-car crash on the Gold Coast on Fri­day night.

Po­lice said a Mun­ruben man, 44, al­legedly drove a ute at high speeds on the Pa­cific Mo­tor­way at Robina be­fore hit­ting two cars and a bar­rier at a road­works site about 8pm.

A spokesman said the man fled the ute and tried to push a man off his mo­tor­cy­cle be­fore a fe­male se­nior con­sta­ble, 47, stopped and con­fronted him.

They be­came in­volved in a strug­gle and the man al­legedly as­saulted the of­fi­cer.

Four mo­torists held the man down un­til more po­lice ar­rived and took him into cus­tody.

The man was charged with dan­ger­ous driv­ing and se­ri­ous as­sault and will face South­port Mag­is­trates Court to­mor­row.
