Two firefighters die in Paris bakery gas blast
PARIS: A powerful explosion apparently caused by a gas leak at a Paris bakery killed two firefighters and injured 47 others last night.
The blast blew w out windows and d overturned cars s (pictured). Firefighters evacuated locals as smoke e billowed over Rue e de Trevise in the e 9th arrondisse- ment of north- central Paris.
Prosecutor Remy Heitz said the cause appeared to be an accidental gas leak.
He said Paris firefighters were already at the scene to in- vestigate a suspected gas leak at the bakery when the explosion happened. Witness Pedro Goncalves sa said: “In the midd dle of nothing, I heard one big explosion and then a lot of pressure came at me (and) a lot of black smoke sm and glass.” Another witness feared it was a terror attack. The bakery ba is around the corner from the FoliesBergere theatre and not far from the shopping district that includes the famed headquarters of Galeries Lafayette.
