Shoe fits with style as Bishop wows diners

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - - CONFIDENTIAL -

SHE was long considered the Imelda Marcos of politics thanks to her pricey wardrobe crammed with highend shoes, designer label threads and expensive jewels.

Now, it seems former foreign minister Julie Bishop has outdone even herself with her latest fashion acquisition.

Flanked by boyfriend David Panton and dining with two mystery companions on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula last week, Bishop stepped out in a pair of heels once described in fashion circles as “the” cult shoe of the decade – Saint Laurent’s Opyum black pumps, which retail for around $1700. That’s if you can get your hands on a pair. The heels are renowned as one of the hardest to buy and carry a long waitlist, although it is understood small sizes occasionally pop up for sale online. We’re not sure how Bishop managed to snaffle a pair but it appears the one-time PM contender still wields some considerable fashion clout, despite the fact she no longer has the same political power. Another interesting detail from the Paringa Estate winery lunch – the super-fit Bishop ordered an extra-large serving of confit pork belly with crackle.
