WHY I LIVE IN …

The Sunday Mail (Queensland) - - NEWS -

PROFESSIONAL blogger, social media influencer and author Nikki Parkinson (pictured) started her blog Styling You after a two-decade long journalism career.

While she normally delves in the realm of fashion, she shares her property aspirations with The Sunday-Mail.

Where do you live and why?

We live in a late 1800s Queenslander in Paddington.

When we moved to Brisbane in 2014 we wanted a location close to the city and where our family lived at the time.

We rented our home for two years before buying it.

It is a great central location for my home-based business, close to my son’s school and an easy bus commute into the city for my husband.

What do you love about your home?

There’s something about a character home that, no matter how much work needs doing on it, it just feels homely and welcoming.

What would you change about your home?

An old house always needs work.

We would like to do a major renovation in a few years.

The back of the house was put on in the early 1990s and offers great space but it could be better designed.

In 2019 we are giving the pool and deck area a much-needed revamp and I hope to get the house painted my favourite colour - white.

What is the best thing about your suburb?

I’ve always loved the village/community feel of Paddington. I love that we’re close the city but in a quiet, leafy pocket. And I love being able to walk out (via some challenging hills!) to cafes and boutiques.

If money was no option, what would be your fantasy home and where?

I think I’d always love to have Queensland as a home base, but if we’re talking fantasy holiday homes, I’d not say no to a villa on the Greek island of Santorini.

What was the best piece of property advice you were given?

I think we’re still on a very big learning curve but something a wise friend in real estate once shared with me was that if we were going to renovate, then aim to sell within two years of that otherwise that renovation would be out of date. Alternatively, leave the renovation to the next owners and sell as is.
