AUSTRALIA still does not have a national firearms register, 25 years after the states and territorie­s signed up to it following the Port Arthur massacre.

As the anniversar­y of Martin Bryant’s atrocity – which killed 35 people – approaches, a Sunday Mail investigat­ion has revealed the 1996 National Firearms Agreement is riddled with loopholes and no state has ever been fully compliant.
