Saints recover with a brilliant last quarter

AN IRRESISTIBLE St Kilda outfit have stunned the West Coast Eagles to reverse a 33-point thirdquarter deficit and breathe new life into their 2021 campaign.

Feverish pressure and relentless attack eventually saw the Eagles wilt under pressure, with the Saints running away 20-point winners after kicking the final eight goals of the game.

Dominating possession for the bulk of the match, the Saints struggled to get reward on the scoreboard, before a Dan Butlerinspired third-quarter burst ignited the home crowd.

Relentlessly sending the ball inside fifty, only inaccuracy cost the Saints the lead at the last change, as they kicked 3.5 in the final 10 minutes,.

The avalanche continued to start the fourth term, with goals to Max King and Tim Membrey giving the Saints their first lead since the 23-minute mark of the first quarter.

As the goals continued to pile up, it was fittingly the captain Jack Steele who put the icing on the cake at the 22-minute mark, snapping one home from the top of the goal square to go with his 33 disposals.

SAINTS 15.12 (102) d EAGLES 13.4 (82). Goals – Saints: King 5, Butler 3, Billings 2, Membrey 2, McKenzie, Steele, Higgins. Eagles: EAGLES Petrucelle 4, Allen 2, Darling 2, Kennedy 2,
