WHY I LIVE IN...

-

As CEO of Virtual Tours Australia, Josh Callaghan is giving businesses, from art galleries to real estate agencies and masterplanned community developers, a digital focus by bringing to life the value of virtual reality.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE, WHY?

My wife and I live in Rochedale South with our four kids. We were in Mount Gravatt for many years but there was a gradual changing of the landscape where older character houses were being replaced with townhouses and unit blocks and we found that the lifestyle benefits were probably more suited to us prior to kids. We moved to a much larger block that backs onto bush so that we had plenty of space for our kids to make their own adventures. We also had some existing friends down here and really liked a local school.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR SUBURB?

Where we are in Rochedale South is very green with lots of bush and trees around thanks to Daisy Hill Forest. The wallabies come down to eat our grass up the back and there are miles of walking and mountain biking tracks.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING?

We unexpectedly had triplets a couple of years ago, which is bound to test the architectural layout of any house. Despite having two living areas and two dining rooms adjoining the kitchen, the general layout of our ground floor is not ideal for three kids under three.

The one thing I would change is the layout of the common areas to create more space.

IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT?

My wife and I both flip between a beach and a bush lifestyle, so if money were no object, then a few acres on the beach is probably the ultimate.

A simple open-plan house with plenty of natural light and timber.

No media rooms or elaborate bedrooms or bathrooms, just a really inviting open space that encourages people to gather and enjoy hanging out… and the amazing view of our private beach!

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF PROPERTY ADVICE ANYONE HAS EVER GIVEN YOU?

Start early. Like most investing, it’s about ‘time in the market’ not ‘timing the market’.

There are always great value properties around if you’re willing to look.
