Feeling anxious? You’re almost twice as likely to answer yes if you’re a woman, new data from Cambridge University in the UK reveals – but you can help boost yours and others’ emotional wellbeing this month by purchasing a Liptember lipstick from Chemist Warehouse and raising funds for the women’s mental health campaign.

Anxiety affects one in three women, compared to one in five men, and our different biology creates different mental health stresses, yet treatment across the genders remains the same. That’s where Liptember’s push for more research into specialised treatments for women comes in.

“Women experience specific physical issues such as hormonal changes, menstruation, pregnancy and menopause, which can impact their mental health and wellbeing,” says Professor Louise Newman, director of the Centre for Women’s Mental Health in Melbourne.

She adds that the psychological strains women experience around ageing, appearance and parenthood also add to the need for gender-specific treatments.
