AMAZING AIRPORT HOTELS
Once just crash pads for tired travellers, airport hotels are flying into new territory
1 HILTON FRANKFURT AIRPORT
Conrad Hilton’s famous quote “Location, location, location” had to have been in the minds of those who chose the spot for Hilton Frankfurt Airport. Connected to Terminal 1, but only a 15-minute drive from downtown, the futuristiclooking, four-star hotel is ideal for those who want to make the most of their time in Frankfurt. After a day of city exploring, sit in its sauna and steam room and dine at its Rise restaurant before retiring to one of the hotel’s 100 rooms and suites.
2 FELIX HOTEL, SYDNEY
With a self-check-in kiosk and a 24-hour grab-and-go food shop replacing a restaurant, it’s clear Felix Hotel, steps from Sydney’s airport, is focused on efficiency.
But its rooftop cinema, cocktail bar and penthouse lounge prove the four-star hotel is equally keen to ensure its guests can unwind too.
Spend your time here socialising in the communal areas, composing inspired emails in the Sky Lounge, or snoozing in one of the 150 flightthemed rooms.
3 H HOTEL LOS ANGELES, CURIO
Wading into the heated rooftop of H Hotel Los Angeles, Curio Collection by Hilton, with swaying palm trees all around, you’ll definitely forget you’re at an airport hotel. The whooshing of planes passing overhead and the LAX signage visible in the distance should quickly give it away though.
But while the deck is impressive, it’s Hannah, the hotel’s robotic butler – programmed to deliver everything from room service to extra pillows to its 168 rooms – that will blow your mind.
4 ANDAZ DELHI
True to the aesthetic the luxury hotel brand is known for, five-star Andaz Delhi brings neighbourhood culture into its decor. Each of its 401 rooms features an artwork celebrating a reason to fall in love with Delhi, while its communal spaces tap into India’s inimitable craftsmanship. When you’re done admiring it all, have lunch at European-style food hall AnnaMaya or dinner at multi-level The Hong Kong Club. Knock back a nightcap at cocktail lounge Juniper Bar.
5 REGAL AIRPORT, HONG KONG
The largest hotel on this list with 1171 guest rooms, six restaurants and bars, a spa, gym and indoor and outdoor pools, the Regal Airport Hotel, Hong Kong, is an adults’ playground. If you’re after pre or postflight pampering, book the Thaiinspired Spa Cabana Room. After a complimentary hour-long massage or facial treatment, the room’s patio, jacuzzi spa, and comfy bed should go down a treat. The hotel is also a good base for guests keen to explore Lantau Island, only a 15-minute drive away.
6 CITIZENM SCHIPHOL AIRPORT
It makes sense that the founder of citizenM hotel brand has a background in fashion. Step into any of its hotels, and you’ll feel as though you’ve just walked into a real-life homewares catalogue. Opened in 2008, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport was the brand’s first property. Taking cues from the accommodation on luxury yachts and private jets, its 335 rooms are functional, yet still cosy. The best feature would have to be the six mood lighting settings, ranging from “relax” to “romance”.
7 SOFITEL LONDON HEATHROW
Despite its direct walkway from one of the busiest airports in the world, Sofitel London Heathrow still manages to drip with sophistication. Choose from 31 teas or various finger sandwiches at its tea salon; dine on gourmet French cuisine at La Belle Epoque, one of its two restaurants; or simply people-watch in its marblefloored lobby.
The five-star hotel with 605 rooms also has a hair salon, state-of-the-art gym, and an award-winning spa offering 25 treatments.
8 FAIRMONT VANCOUVER AIRPORT
Although it scooped up Best Airport Hotel in North America at the Skytrax World Airport Awards for the fifth year in a row, Fairmont Vancouver Airport is showing no signs of complacency. In the past year, the 368-room hotel introduced wellness rooms with yoga mats and essential oils, a Little Flyer Club for kids, and a six-passenger golf cart to shuttle guests directly to airline check-ins. And, come June, it will unveil two swanky Fairmont Gold rooms.
9 AEROTEL SINGAPORE
Located within Changi Airport in Terminal One, Aerotel Singapore should have your every travelling need covered. Only need a bed to get some shut-eye during a long layover? No problem, each of its four room types can be booked by the hour. Want to kill a few hours using the open-air pool or jacuzzi? They have a Pool Package just for that.
The hotel’s most unique feature by far, though, would have to be its library. It’s used as a space for guests to meet one another.
10 HOTEL PULLMAN SAO PAULO GUARULHOS AIRPORT
Two words: poolside bar. That should give you an indication of how different Hotel Pullman Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport is from other airport hotels. In addition to the bar, and the resort-style pool, the five-star hotel has a tennis court, full-service spa, health club, and restaurant with a daily changing themed buffet.
Its 377 rooms range from classic to presidential suites, with the latter boasting an eight-person table and access to an Executive Lounge.
Slip into uber comfort straight from your flight at hotels such as Fairmont Vancouver Airport (main) and futuristic-style Hilton Frankfurt.
