SUMMER LOVERS

There’s never enough swimwear in newly wed Tim Robards’ suitcase

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - Escape - - HOW I PACK - PICTURE: @MRTIMROBARDS/INSTAGRAM

Tim Robards is the original “Bachelor”. Since appearing on the smash hit reality show, the former chiropractor has become a poster boy for all things health and fitness. He’s an ambassador for the world’s biggest fun run – today’s City2Surf in Sydney – but running aside, the celebrity hunk’s other main passion is travel.

He’s notched up more than 100 flights in the past year alone, to destinations including South Africa and Italy, where he recently married his Bachelor bride Anna Heinrich before a Mediterranean honeymoon in Turkey.

MY PACKING STYLE IS …

Pretty last-minute, yet also well thought out and efficient. Given I travel so much and catch so many flights, I’m usually finishing off a load of washing right before I pack and then run out the door.

I PACK FOR A TRIP BY …

Looking at the weather of where I’m going to. Summer’s easier than winter as my luggage is a hell of a lot lighter – but I don’t think you can pack enough options for swimwear, whether you’re male or female.

MY ESSENTIALS FOR EXERCISING WHILE TRAVELLING INCLUDE …

A pair of lightweight runners. Running is my favourite way to see a new city. I especially love my Nike Free pair as they’re super-light and squash up flat in the suitcase.

MY LUGGAGE IS …

A hard-case Samsonite in shiny silver. For carry-on, I’ve lately been using a cool old-school leather backpack from Urban Bogan.

MY OUTFIT WHEN I TRAVEL …

Is generally comprised of my bulkier wardrobe items so I can save on space in my suitcase if I’m maxing out.

MY TOP CARRY ON TIP IS …

Have an easily accessible laptop section, and don’t pack aerosols – use roll-ons or apply before leaving home.

I NEVER BOARD A FLIGHT WITHOUT …

A laptop stocked with predownloaded Netflix episodes so I always have something to watch. I also love my Beats over-ear wireless headphones.

WASH BAG STAPLES INCLUDE …

My Handsome skincare products, which are generally small enough to take in your carry-on.

MY TOP PACKING HACK FOR STAYING FIT ON HOLIDAY IS …

Not to take cotton training gear. You want materials that wick away the sweat and also dry quickly. If I’ve been for a run I’ll usually wash my training gear in the shower and hang it up to dry so I can reuse.

MY BIGGEST PACKING MISTAKE WAS …

Taking both my electric toothbrush and razor and not packing the charger. The other is when I’m a tightarse and make do with a blunt razor and end up with red spots under my neck when I need to look my best.

MY GO-TO TRAVEL APP IS …

Google Maps. It saves my life, especially being able to download offline maps. Also, I now like to book most things through the booking.com app as it keeps my itinerary together on the app, which makes it so much easier than looking through old emails.

Tim Robards relishes romance with Bachelor bride Anna Heinrich at their stay in Turkey at the Macakizi Hotel, Bodrum.
